The egyptian IT sector in numbers

The telecommunications and information technology sector in Egypt is very active, as shown by the following numbers:

-- 15 billion EGP, total investment in this sector until the end of 2005, including Egypt Telecom and two mobile phone companies Vodafone and Mobinil.

-- 1530, number of Egyptian and foreign companies operating in telecommunications and information technology in Egypt until the end of 2005.

-- 40 000, number of jobs created by companies operating in this sector.

-- 16,7 billion EGP, value of the transaction of the 3rd mobile license that has been won by the alliance of the emirati company "Itisalat" (66%), the Egyptian Post (20%), National Bank of Egypt (10%) and Commercial International Bank "CIB-Egypt" (4%).

-- 22 billion EGP, estimates by experts of the total investments of the 3rd mobile phone company in Egypt.

-- 14 million 30 thousand 751, number of subscribers to mobile telephone services in Egypt until May 2006. The number of subscribers to Mobinil stands at 143 714 million in September, while Vodafone has six 37 million 886 thousand subscribers.
